So your trying to get pregnant, yay what an exciting time! I totally know that feeling when you decide its the right time to grow your family. You want to get pregnant like yesterday. It is so easy to get caught up with trying to get pregnant on the first try that it can for some couples become a chore. We certainly do not want that!
Don’t worry though, there are things you can do right now to boost your fertility and get pregnant on your first try!
Check out my post on things I wish I did before I got pregnant HERE.

How to get pregnant Fast
Stop birth control
Okay, this one seems pretty obvious I know. But, what a lot of couples don’t know is that depending on the type of birth control you are on it could take a while to start to ovulate again. If you arn’t ovulating, you cannot get pregnant, which is the entire theory behind some birth controls. Don’t worry this doesn’t mean you wont be able to get pregnant, it just means that your body might need a bit of time to get back into a normal cycle.
Track your period
Tracking your period can help you to determine roughly when you will be ovulating. Since you can only get pregnant a few days before, during and a few days after ovulation it is important to know when that is. Tracking your period also will help you identify if you miss one, and give you a better idea of when you should take a pregnancy test. Plus, once you get that positive, everyone wants to know when your last period was, so it is helpful to know the exact dates. There are a ton of awesome apps now that you can get for your phone that make it super simple.
Figure out when you are ovulating
Okay so we just tracked our period and from that we can figure out the days we will likely be ovulating. Most women will ovulate around day 14 of their cycle, this means your highest days of fertility and the days you are most likely to be pregnant on are days 12, 13, and 14. Unfortunately this is based off of a 28 day cycle, which is the average but not every woman’s cycle is 28 days. Generally speaking though it will happen about mid way through your cycle. This can get confusing so there are some other things you can do to know you are ovulating:
- Use ovulation tests
- Take your basal body temperature
- Assess your vaginal discharge
Have sex before and after your ovulation window
Okay obviously you know that you need to have sex to get pregnant, but since there is such a short window where a woman’s egg is viable, you need to have sex around that time frame to actually get pregnant. Don’t schedule things, but be mindful of your cycle when hitting the sheets.

Use a lubricant that helps fertilization
I totally didn’t know this was a thing until I started researching when my husband and I started talking about starting a family. But if you are using lubricant already, ditch your current one because it may actually prevent you from getting pregnant in the first place! Instead try out a sperm friendly lubricant that can actually increase the odds of you getting pregnant! It worked for us!
Start or maintain a healthy lifestyle
Kicking the bad habits to the curb can help you become more fertile. Plus, you will have to drop anything unhealthy anyways once you are pregnant, so might as well increase your chances of conception by stopping them now!
Did you know that it is important for your significant other to live a healthy lifestyle as well? That’s right, cutting out any bad habits can actually make his sperm healthier and of better quality.
Some things you will want to cut out or at least limit are:
- Smoking or other recreational drugs
- High amounts of caffeine
- Alcohol
- Processed foods
Some things you will want to start doing are:
- Staying active
- Eating a healthy diet
- Drinking enough water
- Taking prenatal vitamins
Relax
This time I have saved the best tip for last! Stress levels can actually decrease your chances of getting pregnant. So try not to overthink or schedule things. Relax and go with the flow. Enjoy each other and have fun!
There you have it!

I am glad you liked it!
I use the [email protected] sticks and the premom app. If I wasn’t using that, I would be so off with my ovulation! I hit my LH peak between days 18 and 19. I hope this helps 🙂
These are great tips! I was very lucky to get pregnant quickly. However, I have many friends who are struggling to conceive. I’ll share this with them.
Great tips. Thanks!
These are good tips! I got pregnant on the first try, and I am very grateful it was so fast, considering how so many struggle. I did do a lot of preparations and research though!
